Littlehampton is a coastal town that is situated at the mouth of the River Arun. A small fishing settlement has been here since prehistoric and Roman times, being recorded in the Domesday Book as ‘Hantone’. Sometime between 1610 and 1695 the town changed its name include the prefix ‘Little’ to differentiate itself from Southampton.
